    Default Loading 7" redfins

How much should the loaded seven inch redfin weigh when its loaded. I live in the newport area and would be using the plug locally. I have access to a three beam scale so you can give me the weight in grams or ounces. I read that 10 ccs of water will do the trick. One problem I want to weight with small shot it would be more accurate make noise and not evaporate like water thanks chuck

On the high side 1.50 oz with hooks and rings. I go as low as 1.20. Experiment. I use siwash hooks. The tail hook will influence the action. A dressed siwash amplifies a very nice wiggle. One of my very favorite lures.

See if any of this would help to extrapolate to shot:

    Default Siwash Size?

For the seven inch redfin what size siwash hook would you use? Would it be better to use bucktail or saddle hackle? Thanks Charlie

I was using 6/0 Gamakatsu but had a bass straighten the hook last Thursday. So I have gone to the 7/0. Tested the action Saturday, swims beautifully. Tonight, a couple of mid-teen bass liked the action too. Go large. Not sure what size VMC or Mustad that translates to. Look at the 7/0 Gamakatsu and compare.

I have used hackle and bucktail but prefer the bucktail. Experiment with the load and swim it slow at night. Out wiggles most of the fancy wood plugs and is very durable. Handles wonderfully in skinny or rough water. Best buy in pluggage.
