Quick round stock tutorial
ScottW asked me to copy a few needles for him and this is how I did it with 7/8" birch dowels. I drilled a 7'8" through hole in some square stock red cedar which holds the round stock snug. Then I measured from the nose down on the original the eyes, hook hole and weight holes. The weights in the original are larger and I don't have those so I used 2 smaller ones front to back for each single. A 3/8" forstner bit was used on all holes, drilling is quicker when you don't have to change bits. Once the holes were marked and drilled I slid the nose of the needle to the to of the red cedar and proceded to drill each hole. Takes a couple minutes to make but saves time and wood by trying to hold it or eye up the holes or marking them all one at a time.
