Tuna/Surf Spinning Reel

In order, what would your preference be for spinning reels used for this years tuna? I'm strictly a surf guy using VS, a 704Z, and a 706Z, not much experience with boats, but I got the tuna bug now. Friend of mine suggested that his reels in order would be

Stella 18K
Accurate Twin Spin
Fin Nor OFS8500
Van Staal 250 or 275

What about ZeeBaas???

I think this year the key is at least 65# (with carefully tied, strong knots) or 80# braid so almost any of those reels are an option.

The next step is knowing how strong you are and how much experience you have fighting big fish and possibly considering a belt system. These reels can put out some serious drag and it can definitely burn people out.

Being that you are a surf guy, maybe grab a reel that can possibly do both for you?

The 275 if you tend to get the reel wet might handle both jobs well.

Most of the other options are too big and/or heavy but some guys use them for heavy duty jigging such as the Canal. The Saltiga 6000GT might be an option. Might be a little lacking in capacity with 80# though.

But if I was only purchasing for tuna purposes only, the new Stellas are really nice.
