Great! I think they dive deeper than red fins and will hold in rougher water.

If you want a shallow swimmer you can heat the lip and bend it back (to make it more perpendicular to the body) according to Captain Frank who makes them.

    ATheall,
Just want to let you know I received the "Old School swimmer" lure in the mail today. Nice quality lure, looks like 3X strong permasteel hooks and 3 wrap split rings. Don't need to replace any hardware. Seems much sturdier than the Cotton Cordell redfins I usually throw.
Thanks again for the chance to win!

I am a stupid. It took me forever to figure this out! If the fish are on top, break out the topwaters. It will be obvious. Otherwise, work the water column from the bottom up. Most of you know but like I said, it took me forever to figure this out. If you don't know, learn from my mistakes. A 3oz spook is fun to fish but when the fish are holding the in the bottom of the river feeding on bait being flushed out with the tide you probably aren't going to catch one on one no matter how awesome...

It must be getting close to August. How do I know? There's a pile of broken tackle here at the house waiting to be returned from whence it came, repaired by me or just trashed.

There's a St. Croix Mojo with a cracked stripper guide, that's got to go back. I'm suspicious of the no-name guides on these. We'll see if its a recurring theme.

There's a Zeebaas ZX-22 with a wrecked line roller and I think a bad bail arm. That's got to go back for repair.

I'm a convert this year and boy do I feel like a stupid for not getting with this program sooner.

A lot of you already know and this post won't be news to you- but for those of you don't- bucktail jigs with pork rind trailers are pretty much the weapons of mass destruction of the surfcasting world.

Why in a world of $20 and $30 handcrafted surf plugs would a mass produced $3 lead head jig with some deer hair tied to it be preferable under many circumstances? Why...

Surf tested - striper approved:

This is a really nice surf rod now that I've spent a little time with it. Pretty parabolic in its action, can toss lighter baits but has the backbone to launch a heavy tin or Roberts Ranger a long, long way for a rod of this length (8ft 10in). I love that its a one piece. Had plenty of power to spare landing this 20lb'er.

The adjustable reel...
