    Default Fishing Tournys/Events...

An interesting conversation about fishing tournaments/events broke out at the shop today. The recent VS Surf Shootout turned out really nicely, thinking along those lines, any good "outside the box" ideas for a fishing tournament or event?

The emphasis we're interested in is more about getting people to fish and have fun so good ideas would ideally:

    1) encourage people to get out and fish
    2) encourage people to fish together
    3) encourage people to have fun
    4) avoid all the negative stuff that sometimes is associated with fishing tournaments

So kind of the "anti" tournament fishing event if you will.

We have ideas for prizes/rewards, but what I'm interested in is what sort of events would anglers be interested in participating in. Maybe that's a better question, what motivates (or would motivate) you to fish an event? Great prizes, promise of a good time, etc. etc.? Any and all input is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks guys,

    Chris

Draft fishing partners from the pool of those who sign up. And then draft what plugs each team can use. Haha like the #1 seed would get to fish live eels etc.

    Anything that's catch and release.

A lot of tourneys use cards that are laminated, so for the guys that fish alone can still get in on it.

I think an early morning day break topwater bluefish/albie contest would be cool.

Something that runs for a few days or a week would be good, people always have things come up last minute and weather can turn to crap and ruin all your planning.

Mr Toaster, eels are not plugs. Mr. Chobot, prizes are what makes guys cheat. Catch and release only. How about a picture on a plaque on the wall with all the losers bowing down to the winner at the SWE for all to see. Maybe potluck for food for the before/after bbq and entry fees to a local charity or family that needs it.

C&R only - in addition make it an amateur only tourney - in other words no professional/commercial R&R entries. That aspect is what seems taint other big money tourneys.

I spoke with Jenks about the Martha's Vineyard "One Fly" tourney format which could easily be converted into a similar "one plug" tourney.

Mike mentioned the One Fly(plug) concept also and it sounded great, also..suppose you had a Two Plug Shootout between two makers like SS vs NB and the field of competitors gets divided into two teams and it's both a team and individual competition

    thoughts below;
    - C&R only - length and girth
    - partner or teams
    - no photos - good idea for forum/FB but too much time to take it. If still want/need photos, push tourney off until fall for cooler water temps
    - someone mentioned a lottery format for teams. I like that idea to meet new people.
    - 1 or 2 plugs max I don't like. Its hard enough to find fish and I don't like limiting the # plugs or location
    - throw in a bluefish category
    - KISS - the more rules, the more problems.
