    Default Remembering July

I was back in RI for the first time in three years and I have to say the fishing was not that good, or as good as I remembered. The year I left RI for San Diego the fish were abundant at the Navy Base up until August and even then you could catch fish. I did catch about 15 or so in a span of four days with the biggest being 15 lbs or so. All and all it was great to be back and fishing. One last thing, the North Bar bottle Darter not half as effective as the SS darter. Just an opinion from my own field test. I fished it in the surf, in current and at slack water. Always caught more fish on the SS, that includes Blue Fish. The Red Fin was also very effective as well as the Sluggo.

Also, if you have not been catching much and need a boost of confidence, go to Sachuest point and throw poppers for blues, they were abundant...

Mike, hope you had a great visit, sorry the fishing wasn't up to expectations, we're in a familiar pattern right now where there is abundant bait hanging just offshore and that is where the fish are....the boat guys have been absolutely killing it, shore guys have to either slug it out through long nights and hope for a wandering cow or watch for opportunities where favorable conditions will help move some of those fish closer to the water's edge....the bay warmed up quickly and while the fishing has been great around the base from what I've been hearing in previous months, it may be slow due to the condtitions that were in place while you were here
