Arden, some of us have jobs and can't go during the week... But let me know how it goes (especially hot teaser color)!

10 kn W winds and 1-2 ft seas? Doesn't sound too bad for Sat. Although we all know how quickly that can change... and how inept those weather bastages at NOAA are...

Word is the Cod bite is ON FIRE!!!

I may sound like I'm preaching but this year is turning into another historical season for the water SE of the Block.

Last word was thats the fish are here in bigger numbers, that they continue to hit both jigs and bait, and that there getting bigger. In fact average fish are creeping into the double digits and some "Whale Cod" are joing the mix. The Viking Fleet alone has had some slobs including this one weighing 35+lbs!!!

That said, most of you here are New England based. If you want to get in on the hot action you can go with the great guys on the Fances Fleet or the NY guys on the Island Current who are spending the winter slaying the cod out of Snug Harbor. Both are 1st class operations and well worth the trip.

i feel like I'm beating a dead horse...are we just complaining about cabin feaver or planning on tacking some action

You guessed it, fishing is EVEN BETTER. In fact most of the southern NE coast is flooded with Cod. A friend of mine hit the 50 mile wrecks out of western Long island...limited out of cod to 40lbs. MTK is still epic. Get your acts together, post pics here

Quick update, after a bit of a lull in the BI cod bite with the past few storms, things have started turning on again. Even better, the crazy pre-dawn bite seems to have been replaced by an steady bite later in the day - which is great because I like sleeping

I should mention this lull seems to happen every year. Storm or not, the end of Feb. see's a brief lull then the bite heats up for a couple more crazy weeks with a bunch of bigger fish in the mix before the fish scramble. Though you may still jig a few the bait that generated the early seasons jig bite has started moving already. As the reports reflect, it may be time to conceed to the rail and soak clams.

....If this sounds forign to you pick up some 7/0-9/0 Gamakatsu Octopus hooks, 60-80lb leader material, spro swivels 130lb or better, and of course a whole bunch of lead in the 10-20oz range.

Of course this whole Cod fishery is out of the "norm" so dont forget some jigs and teasers. My favorite jig is a classic Vi-Ke jig around 12oz and orange red gills make great teasers for cod both sides of the Atlantic.

Catch em' up

FYI after the past blow fishing had slowed on the cod grounds considerably. However, yesterday was another gong show with limit fishing and some slobs to almost 30lbs taken
