I still think NOAA gets it right most of the time. or at least in the ballpark. Like Pete said, it just takes a little while to get used to interpreting the forecast. Today is NE 5-10 w/ 2-3ft in RI Sound. When I drove by it was almost greasy with a 2-3ft swell... so that 2-3 was different than 2-3 of chop...
One other trick. Always use the Rhode Island Sound forecast for winds (wave heights can be way off) in the mid-bay, I find it is usually closer to what the RIS forecast is than the NBay forecast.
