I switched to Fireline on all my non braid friendly old Penns. I have had zero issues with wind knots/birds nests. As you said it is not round, but I have not encountered problems with it yet. The last ten feet or so needs to be trimmed back every so often as it begins to fray. I will have to look at the new Suffix fused.

don't go suffix! I went through 2 spools of it in 1 year. if you want to keep your sanity out on the rocks, stay away from it. Horrible horrible wind knots.

Why did I get 2 spools of it you ask? I thought that it was a bad spool and that I would give Suffix another shot.

I should have never cheated on PP.

I use fireline on my Daiwa Bg reels and on a couple of abu's. I prefer it to PP particularly on baitcasters. Less blowups.

Are you talking about sufix braid, or this fused stuff?

Sufix braid has always been good to me, but the fused looks like it holds promise for my 704z.

I have never used Suffix so I can't knock it. I use PP on my newer Penn reels but all the greenies and z's get fireline. I'll pick up a 125 yard spool of this new stuff to try it out. The only thing I can see that would make me change from Fireline is if the Suffix Fused is more durable, (doesn't fray as quickly).

I agree the only shortcoming with Fireline as far as I'm concerned is the fraying.

Fireline has a deserved reputation for being WAY stronger than the stated test. Like 2x.

I straighten 4x VMC's on snags with it without breaking and my 50lb test flourcarbon leaders break first using 20lb fireline.

If the 20lb sufix only tests out at 20lb then I probably won't be keen on it.

I've never noticed the "fraying" of fireline as a negative. It gets a little "fuzzy" after some use but I actually see this as a benefit especially with the 30lb stuff which is a little too stiff when new. When it gets fuzzy it gets even easier to handle. Never noticed any appreciable reduction in strength because of this either.

Suffix braid is probably the smoothest casting stuff I've ever used, but it gets finicky with age and use. Power Pro is more consistent, but for anything under 30lb test, Fireline is my favorite.

I'd probably try the new fused suffix. I've been happy with their other lines.

I will have to agree with you there, I have never noticed or had break offs due to fraying. I just make a point to trim back some line after every outing to ensure I am not fishing with overstressed line/knots.
