Fly Rodding the Ocean State

Had dinner in Boca Grande a few weeks ago with Enrico Puglesi the inventor of Sea Fibers and the owner of EP Flies. His flies have become a "go to" for Boca Grande tarpon guides. I was suprised the prefered pattern was black over purple as it looks nothing like any natural that I am familar with. Both Enrico and Captain Joe LeClair descibed a series of presentations where more traditional patterns were refused and the black over purple gets the chew. This happened enough to enough guides that the EP Baitfish earned it's stripes. The logic is that against the bright sun the dark pattern stands out while also having some translucence within it's shape.




I like the EP Shrimp up here when imatating a grass shrimp...same translucence in effect me thinks. Haven't tried a dark version.
