Heard a few rumblings that fish were taken mid week so I took Friday off and hit the salty shores of Plum Island.
For the first time in many years I did not get a jump on things by fishing RI early. I was in Newport a couple of weeks back on business ad brought a rod but wound up aborting mission as my early season spots were weeded up.
Back to Plum Island. Bucktailed up a half dozen bass including one small keeper. All were feisty and released healthy.
Found out first hand as I shipped in my VS200 for service at Rivers End a few weeks back. They called me to let me know that my main bearing was done and that they were upgrading it to VS's new ceramic bearing. I'll be buying 2 or 3 706's. That will carry me through the rest of my life, I expect.
Penn says ~$200
Following a quiet season last year I am hoping for better this year. Am going to get after it again, God willing.
Plan to take some time off from work this spring to fish and hopefully hit some spots i dont fish enough like Newport, the Canal and so on. Have been working too much.
I know, you don't call and you don't write.
Sorry the blog was quiet this season. I have small kids, a big job and my wife had a bout with Lyme Disease this summer (she's fine now). Didn't fish as much as usual. In fact, the only decent size bass I caught the whole season were the last week of June, which I spent on Martha's Vineyard. Had reasonably good fishing there. Otherwise I found it to be slow to very slow most everywhere I went this year.
One thing that
