A Sufcasting Puzzle

So I go fishing tonight. I work my way around a few spots at the last one I get a hit on the first cast. Second cast, hit in the same spot. Third cast I hook and land a 10 lb bass.
I casted all around that area for the next hour or more and not a bump.
So it begs the question- was there only one fish there and it was really hungry or were there others that were either spooked when I hooked the first or just had lockjaw?
I will say that the water was quite calm and gin clear, for what that is worth. Ideally I'd rather see more chop and/or somewhat reduced water clarity. The fish get such a good look at the plug when the water is so clear it seems to me.
