Blew up on a cast with a 2 1/4 oz Roberts Ranger during a bluefish blitz on Chappy. Backup rod back at the house on Edgartown. Show's over.

This is the second time I've broken this rod. I haven't even used it that much since the first time I broke it. Maybe half a dozen times.

The folks at St. Croix are great with the warranty, but I'm not sure how much I'm going to trust this rod going forward.

I'm sorry to hear of your issue. Warranties are a wonderful thing, but when you're a drive away from your "back-up" or (like me) you're a 200yd swim and then a two mile walk away from extra equipment it doesn't matter.
I build a lot of surf rods, some St. Croix's when they had one piece blanks available. Everyone that I had built has "exploded". Subsequently, the replacements were all made out of Lamiglas; mostly because of the lack of one piece models. Two piece blanks are (and always have been for me) a roll of the dice. You never know when you're going to push that one cast beyond the blank's limit or hook that one fish that stresses the rod "just right" so it explodes when you put pressure on during the fight. Just hope for better luck, I always do.
