Is the world record striper swimming around out there?

With the new RI state record just set and within a pound or so of the all tackle world record, my striper sense says yes. Now I'm not claiming this is tremendous insight. It's pretty much a certainty that it's swimming right now. The more important question is will someone catch it. And that's where I say yes, and in the next few years.

As for where- well continuing the theme of what's obvious- the waters surrounding block island have to be the frontrunner, having given up two fish north of 75lbs in 2 years.

The waters around cuttyhunk would be my second. The Cape has given up bass north of 70lbs in years gone by. Montauk is a known big fish spot. And of course the current record came from Atlantic city. So that really narrows it down

We've got some good year classes that hatched during the "moratorium" and now post moratorium years. These fish are getting bigger all the time and so there should be good numbers of larger fish for a time.

I am sure that it is swimming out there somewhere. Two that are close were caught in two years. The odds are that there are more than a few real monsters out there. She is probably hanging around block right now, watching eels with hooks go right in front of her. I would think that live lining a 2 pound scup, blue, sea bass or tog (in season) would increase the odds.

Well I guess we got our answer on this one. Congratulations to Greg Myerson on his newly certified IFGA world record.
