  1. Summertime

Well its hot and we're transitioning into more of a summer pattern.

What I see in my logs is that while I don't catch as many fish in July, in past years I've tended to catch larger fish in July. I've also found July to be highly structure and tide dependent- not like spring or fall with the fish schooled up. Tide but not as much structure, I find during the periods of migration.

The log shows August has historically been a tough month for me. Not a lot of fish and ...

My brother and I fished our arses off during the wee hours of the 4th of July. I jigged a bucktail in a deep, fast water location for the last 2 1/2 hours of the dropping tide and for my efforts I had one fish that was maybe a foot long, one that was maybe 2 feet and one dropped fish. And the reel is going to have at least a rudimentary water sealing system and will be at a very attractive price point. I don't think they're claiming its anywhere near a VS but this should be of benefit to many surfcasters who are really only concerned with a quick dunk or some splashing and not deep wading or skishing. I hear there will also be a bail-less model released after the bailed. There isn't a reel like this on the market anywhere near the price I hear this will sell for.

Blew up on a cast with a 2 1/4 oz Roberts Ranger during a bluefish blitz on Chappy. Backup rod back at the house on Edgartown. Show's over.

This is the second time I've broken this rod. I haven't even used it that much since the first time I broke it. Maybe half a dozen times.

The folks at St. Croix are great with the warranty, but I'm not sure how much I'm going to trust this rod going forward.
