I've been fishing all my life, but never knew much about bucktails. Not only did I learn a lot, but it truly motivated me to add bucktails to my arsenal this season. An easy, enjoyable read full of practical,time-tested wisdom.

The book gives out quite a bit of info and some nice tricks definitely worth checking it out. Somebody wrote on the review that doesn't treat how to fish bucktails in the rock but the sentence "gliding and sliding " the bucktail should be the answer at least for a rocky bottom+ you can float a bucktail almost and it says in the book how to do it. I think even if not explicitly you can understand how to fish bucktail in the rocks. And then things happen and unless your bucktail is RC GUIDED can always get stocked. I think it's a good book. Little annoyed by the Uncle Josh name marked and underlined in almost each page. i guess it's buziness!

| Pros: | Easy to read. Large print. |
| Cons: | The book is an advertisement for his bucktail kit. |
| Recommended: | Yes |
This book is easy to read but not as entertaining to read as Zeno Hromin's The Art of Surfcasting With Lures. Some of the charts seemed unecessary and confusing, defeating the purpose of keeping it simple. It is 130 pages but reads shorter because of the big print and full page photos. This book also reads like an ad for his own line of Uncle Josh Bucktail Kit...somewhat shameless.
| Pros: | keeps things simple |
| Cons: | a lot on boat fishing |
| Recommended: | No |
I was hoping to learn all about how to fish bucktails in my favorite settings off of rocks, and how to stop getting hung up on the bottom. He covers the beach well, and several chapters are devoted to boat fishing (which is useless to me), but not fishing rocky shores. So, just know that it covers some, but not all fishing terrains.

More than just bucktails, I also learned about a systematic approach to new surf fishing techniques. I would consider this a must read for the surf caster.

| Pros: | The book was very well written for the expert and beginner alike |
| Cons: | As an experienced freshwater jig fisherman I don't see any cons relative to the books content |

This book exposed some unknown tricks that I had not considered in 30 years of jig fishing. These techniques can be applied in freshwater for walleye, bass and musky as well!! It is never too late to tune up your jig fishing !! The book was extremely insightful relative to my new found passion for Stripers!!
