As a fly tier I am a particular fan of the Gamakatsu SC-15 for smaller bonefish and bonito flies and the Sakuma 430 series for sand eel patterns. We have almost every hook the saltwater tier could need and are happy to order anything else.
A tip as it relates to fish hooks: don't take this piece of tackle for granted. Many GREAT lures come stock with poor hooks. Avoid the heartache and invest in quality hooks like VMC , Gamakatsu or Owner. Then pick up a pair of split ring pliers and swap out any hooks that appear suspect. The hook on the end of your line is too important to be the 'weak link' in your approach. Don't overlook the hooks.
Sharpen those hooks! VMC, Owner, Gamakatsu, Mustad, as well as other new companies all offer a wide variety of styles for your rigging preference. On the tying side, Daiichi and Tiemco round out the offererings. Invest in a good quality hook and always check to make sure they're sharp before, during and after fishing.
