Breakaway clips are fast becoming the preferred method of connecting your lure to your line for many striped bass fisherman. Here are some reasons why:

Easy On and Off - Changing lures can be tough in cold weather or when wearing gloves. These clips make struggling to open up your snap or reaching for the pliers a thing of the past. They make changing lures fast and easy.

No Weakening of Metal - Opening and closing a snap repeatedly can weaken the metal over time leaving you open to the possibility of losing a plug or worse, a plug AND the fish attached to it.

10 per pack - At under $4 per 10 pack these clips are both functional AND economical.

50lb Clip

I have been using the 5olb clip for over 10 years fishing the saltwater flats of the Laguna Madre. They last forever. You only need to replace when your line/leader breaks.

Fast Clips

Prefer these to the other two types because one has a less secure closure and the other is too expensive

Great Invention

with a little practice very easy to use even at night. best of all there's no worries if you didn't close the snap all the way or if it opens.tough to get on lures with split rings so take them off Breakaways gives the freedom of action like a split ring. love them

great product

These clips are not only the easiest way to fasten lures but strong as well, haven't had one fail yet.

Pros: Great design
Cons: Too small
Recommended: No

Not too bad, BUT

Because of the small size. Takes time to set the lure on. I don't think, it will work very well in a dark.

Pros: easy to use, strong
Cons: little too small for 3oz+ bucktails and some tins
Recommended: Yes

Two thumbs up

These are THE snaps for plugging. I use them with either an 80 or 130lb Spro Power Swivel and they are the best clips I've ever used. No problems going from a redfin to a bunker snag to a bucktail, the snap is easy to put onto 90% of the plugs in your bag. The only problem I've had with these is that they are a bit too small for bigger bucktails in the 2.5+ ounce range and tins without an external eyelet will not fit on without an additional split ring.

The original

Ive tried the tactical angler clips, and havent found any advantage to them. Ive been using breakaways for about 5 years and have yet to have one fail.

4/ 5 stars
By From Piermont, NY on

Pros: Easy to use, durable, low profile
Cons: Not compatible with everything
Recommended: Yes

No reason to use anything else

I've been using these exclusively for 3 seasons now and I love them. So easy to use and makes changing all these plugs I buy from SWE a quick, painless process. I had to add split rings to some tins (e.g. Kastmasters) to use them with the clips and you may run into an occasional mismatch with some lures.

Best Clip Around

I snagged one of these while surf fishing and started using it. It was such a great product I had to buy more.

Why use anything else?

Stick with the originals- Breakway FL1's. They are cheap, strong, and work very well.

Love them

have used them for everything from jigging to popping to trolling and they are just a great convenience. can't be beat, I keep a pack of them in each of my tackle bags so I'm always covered.

By From Falmouth, MA on

Pros: Simple, strong, efficient
Cons: Can weaken over time; knot can move
Recommended: Yes

Changed the way I fish!

This is all I use on my rods now. Its so easy to change lures that I find myself changing lures more often that I should be! They are strong and I have never had one open up. Way better than any snap lock and no moving parts. Only con is the knot can sometimes rotate out of position and I could see it popping off....and they do wear out over time, but like anything I guess!

Reliable Clip

Great alternative to the old style clips. Can change lures in the dark no problem. So far have not seen any failures in regards to them opening up.

No Moving Parts!

If you fish with these at night, you'll never have to wonder if you closed your snap properly. An effective, simple design. With a little practice, you can easily switch plugs without a light. I don't fish without them.

I've been using the Breakawy SL2 for two seasons. Easy to swap lures with limited lighting. No second guessing if a snap is weak or engaged properly.

GREAT CLIP

I FIRST GOT THIS CLIP SEVERAL YEARS AGO FROM BREAKAWAY. AND WHEN I SAW THEM AT SWE I WAS THRILLED TO GET THEM LOCALLY. THIS CLIP IS BUNCH BETTER THAN ANY OTHER CLIP, INCLUDING THE DOUBLE CROSSLOCK. HAD TO PUT SPLIT RINGS ON THE FRONT OF SOME OF MY TINS. THIS IS THE LAST CLIP YOU'LL EVER BUY

4/ 5 stars
By From NY on

Pros: Great for most wire eyed plugs, fast, easy to use

Fantastic Clip

I will probably never buy another makers clip as long as these are still around! No more dealing with other clips reopening and causing you to lose that big $$ plug!

Breakaway clips

I started using these breakaway clips after a friend recommended them. I tie my fluoro leader to it and then I can not worry about having to change it. I can use it for my plugs or if I decide to change to eels I can just slide my 6/0 hook onto it and go. So it makes it real easy to switch to anything you want to use. The only thing I do not like is the line can slip from side to side and very large plugs or hooks are harder to get on

Breakaway Spin Clips

Best fast clip I have ever used and I have tried them all . You do need to remove teh front split ring from any hard bait to keep the balance correct - but once you do changing lures is simple and fast.Plus, unlike most other clips these never come 'unlocked" The only con is that they are expensive
